Automobile Insurance
Liability and Comprehensive Insurance

Four easy steps to developing a personal financial plan and then following through:

Identify your personal goals
Identify your assets
Protect your assets
Grow your assets
Automobile insurance takes on two forms; liability and comprehensive

There are two things to think of when shopping for insurance. First, determine the type and scope of coverange you think you need. Secondly, think about what kind of support and reliability you'll need from your agent and from the insurance company.

The most important step in saving money on your car insurance
Don't let your policy lapse. Even if you don't drive while it's lapsed it will cost you. The rates for an insurance buyer who does not have a currently active policy are higher, often a lot higher. If you won't be driving for a couple of months you might want to reduce your coverage during those months to reduce the cost of carrying an unneeded policy, but don't let the policy lapse.

Type and scope of coverage
 Your agent and insurance company
There's more to shopping for insurance than just going to a website that gives you a half dozen rates from different companies. Automobile insurance is a big ticket item for most of us and it's worth doing some actual nitty-gritty searching – talk to a lot of different agencies. Get on the phone with them, not just the internet.

The internet is useful for a first pass at getting some estimates. You need to first decide on a basic idea of the coverage you want, collision, comprehensive, medical, liability, etc. You need to decide on un-insured/under-insured motorist coverage. Do you need gap insurance if you have a heavily financed car? Do you want to consider an umbrella policy that combines with your homeowners? What kind of deductible features do you want?

Work all that out, and you can use internet queries to make a first pass decision on that. You aren't going to be set in stone with that, so just make some good guesses as to what you'll want.

That's when you need to hit the phones. You need to start calling agents/companies and find out how you might be able to reduce the premium estimate you got on the internet search by making small changes in the terms of the policy. If you find a company that offers a very good deal with just a small increase in deductible, for example, then return to the internet and redo all your other estimates using that exact coverage.

Repeat until you think you've put together the policy that's perfect for you.

I get my own business cards from them and it's a legit offer. They just charge for postage and it's quality work.

Students currently enrolled in school often receive a discount on auto insurance for good grades, as many companies feel conscientious students make conscientious drivers. Shop for it if you have teenage drivers.

Save on car insurance

If you hit a deer (or any other animal) on the road don't touch the animal. If it's alive it will be very frightened and you're likely to get hurt if you try to touch or move a live animal after it's been hit by a car. Get your car off the road if possible and call the police and call your insurance agent. Damage to your car will be covered by your comprehensive insurance policy. Getting an insurance quote
